It
is incredibly rewarding to start with a blank white canvas and only seven
colors and end up with a beautiful oil painting. I love color. I know how
to make colors and use them to create illusions, evoke feelings, and
moods. My paintings are happy because I love making them. I believe a
painting should look like a painting. I want to see brushstrokes. From a
distance your eye reads it as a clear tranquil scene. Up close it just
breaks apart into brushstrokes and color. Computer pixels have a similar
effect.’
Why
do I do what I do? As far back as I can remember I enjoyed drawing and
painting. I was the kid in Kindergarten that was clamoring to get to the
paint easel. During the adult services in church, my mom always gave me a
small notebook in which to draw and one of those cool pens that had four
different colors. The love of creating followed me into adulthood.
In
college they used to call me Grasshopper. Aside from me being five foot
one, I would get completely absorbed in my paintings until they were
finished. How did I know that they were done? I just knew. It is a sense.
To date, I have found four four-leaf clovers. I don’t know what that means
exactly, but I am lucky to be an artist.
